Here we go! A fresh start in January!

If it were not for the many wonderful teachers I have had along the way, I would not know the difference between pizza cutter and a rotary cutter, between a HST and Flying Geese, pressing versus ironing, and why a 1/4″ seam is critical to making blocks and tops that are square and lay flatter than a pancake. I am asking each of you to be open to learning, to listen to alternatives, and to consider trying something different. I will do the same.

And speaking of different–quilts are just as different as our quilters and our veterans and service members. It seems no two are identical. Even if the block pattern is the same, the colors and fabric choices make the difference, and the quilting adds to the uniqueness. Take a browse through the tops recently made that will become heirloom quilts.

While we take joy in awarding quilts to others, we also take joy in recognizing our volunteers. To acknowledge the dedication of our group’s quilters, the following ladies have been awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for 2022. Join me in congratulating them. Without our volunteers, we cannot accomplish the QOVF mission.

Want to help make a difference in the lives of veterans and service members touched by war? Come to a sew day and see what goes into creating comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. You do not have to sew; there are many other ‘jobs’ including just coming to visit.

So, or is it sew? Mark your calendar for the remaining Sew Dates in 2023:
February 27, March 27, April 24, May 22, June 26, July 31, August 28, September 25, October 30, November 13, and December 11

Thank you all for everything you do for our service members and veterans-your gratitude and quilts make a difference.

Take care,
Marianne Miraldi Elliott
